Position Objective
This position leads a team of statistical analysts that support organizational strategy and operations through design and statistical analysis of business initiatives and experiments. Works with business partners to understand what the business needs and issues are to address. Oversees the application of advanced statistics and data mining (e.g., predictive modeling, simulation) or other mathematical techniques to recognize patterns and create insights from business data. Oversees the design, development, and evaluation of statistical and predictive models that lead to business solutions. Communicates findings and recommendations to management across different departments. Supports implementation efforts.

Primary Accountabilities
- Statistical Research & Model Development (45%)
- Works with business partners to identify and scope new opportunities for statistical analysis applications to evaluate business performance and to support business decisions.
- Oversees the development of advanced statistical models related to experimental design and analysis, including data collection and prep, initial research and exploration (e.g., data mining, regression, cluster analysis), hypothesis development, experimental design and statistical analysis.
- Builds hypotheses, identifies research data attributes and determines best approach to address business issues.
- Oversees the development of predictive models (e.g., logistic regression, generalized linear models) to support business partner objectives and business needs.
- Oversees the testing and validation of statistical models.
- Keeps abreast of significant developments within the industry and develops strategies that allow the company to take advantage of those opportunities.
- Incorporates findings and provides industry and competitor insights as part of model development and enhancement.
- Researches and leverages new statistical techniques and technologies to apply in statistical research work.

- Model Consultation, Implementation, & Communication (30%)
- Serves as statistical expert in consultation to various areas of the business, to support design and analysis of business experiments.
- Leads analytics projects or components related to large, complex business initiatives.
- Works with research and analytics staff and other areas of the business on model application and implementation.
- Responsible for communication and delivery of statistical and predictive model results to business partners, supporting socialization and adoption of analysis results into business activities and decisions.
- Works closely with business stakeholders to identify and answer critical questions.

- Management/Leadership for Department or Unit (15%)
- Manages direct reports, systems, and projects to achieve department/unit goals in accordance with Company policies and practices.
- Prepares and analyzes department/unit plans and reports.
- Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
- Creates an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, recognizing outstanding performance, and maintaining open communications.
- Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments, and establishing performance & development plans.

- Strategies Linked to the Division's Business Goals/Results (10%)
- Establishes, communicates, and implements departmental plans, objectives, and strategies.
- Participates as a member of the Management Team.
- Maintains an active awareness of American Family's business environments, corporate culture, and structure to support key decision-making.

Education/Licenses/Designations
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Sciences or Engineering, or related field or equivalent.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience building predictive models utilizing advanced statistical analysis, including generalized linear models, decision trees, logistic and multivariate regression.
- Demonstrated experience communicating business implications of complex data relationships and results of statistical models to multiple business partners.
- Demonstrated experience in public speaking and use of appropriate presentation skills.
- Demonstrated experience interfacing with business clients and partnering with business stakeholders to create solutions.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing advanced descriptive statistics and analysis techniques (such as forecasting, analysis of variance, t-tests, categorical data analysis, nonparametric data analysis, cluster analysis, factor analysis and multivariate statistical analysis) design business experiments and measure the impact of business actions.
- Demonstrated experience with statistical and modeling software tools, such as SAS, SPSS or R.
- Demonstrated experience working with various business partners to scope and design the statistical framework for business experiments, and socialize and help integrate results of analysis of experiments.
- Demonstrated management or leadership experience.

Travel Requirements
- This position requires travel up to 10% of the time.
