Position Details:

Will consider candidates at the lower 2 levels, if qualified.

· Familiarity with a wide range of technologies such as web services, servers, virtualization, JVM, messaging, storage, networks, and databases is preferred.

· Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting on key application and system performance metrics for both production and pre-production systems in environments leveraging the following technologies is preferred:

· Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux - RHEL), Windows Server 2008, AIX, HP-UX, VMWare, Citrix, and some familiarity with z-Series.

· JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, Oracle database, WebSphere MQ, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), and CICS.

· Experience gathering and analyzing application performance metrics using tools such as Best/1 Capacity Management and CA Wily Introscope is preferred.

· Experience writing SQL queries, Perl, and PHP is preferred.

· Strong Organizational Skills with the ability to lead technical projects, conduct pre and post implementation performance studies, and partner with other technologists to resolve system slowdowns and outages is preferred.

Position Objective
Provides extensive technical expertise and leadership to perform capacity workload modeling and availability analysis for complex platforms and large environments. Through proper training, complex analysis, monitoring, and advanced modeling techniques, employee ensures that the computer capacity requirements necessary to meet service level objectives are known for complex computing platforms and critical processing workloads. Installs software, performs software configuration, and maintains software. Assists technologists in planning the resource requirements for systems under development. Performs and presents to management and technologists statistical availability and trend analysis and recommendations. Provides software solutions to graphically report and project the reliability and availability of complex computing platforms and solutions to meet business objectives. Assists and coaches less experienced staff. Participates in and makes recommendations regarding vendor selection and domain standards and procedures. Manages the most complex projects in this discipline.


Primary Accountabilities
- Strategies Linked to the Division's Business Goals/Results
- Understands American Family's business environments, corporate culture and structure to support work initiatives.
- Supports and participates in the I/S transformation process including the cultural principles (ethics, integrity, meeting behaviors, teamwork, cooperation, communications, interpersonal relations, supervisory behaviors, contracting, customer focus, quality, risk management, empowerment, and entrepreneurship).
- Maintains an active awareness of American Family's business environments, corporate culture and structure to support key decision making.

- Collaborative and Team-Based Environment
- Works well with others within I/S to ensure optimal service to clients. Shares knowledge and information with others on team to better resolve problems and build client knowledge.
- Works with clients to fully understand their problem/frustrations/concerns with professionalism and empathy.
- Provides expert time, studies, and presentations on products and services within the domain upon request.
- Provides descriptions of products and services proactively to people within I/S and upon request to others outside of I/S.

- Computer and Database Platform Capacity Modeling: Sizing of the most complex computing platforms for the most critical systems
- Performs the most complex software installation and software maintenance.
- Conducts computer hardware configurations workload impact analysis.
- Develops computer configurations against workloads models.
- Develops models and performs simulations of system/capacity requirements.
- Weighs various scenarios against business needs and selects the most cost effective solutions.
- Prepares reports and presents implications to management and clients. Documents modeling studies results.

- Computing Platform Capacity Trend Analysis: Long term impact of computer workload changes to the most complex platforms and most critical systems
- Conducts consumption trends analysis on a variety of platforms, makes recommendation based on analysis and a thorough understanding of strategic technology planning and the future of the infrastructure.
- Provides input to technology planning process for the future infrastructure.
- Assesses the impact of business strategies and plans on capacity needs.
- Trend analysis report preparation.
- Computer configurations useful life projections.

- Computing Platform Availability Analysis: Reporting the relationship between computing platform availability and capacity consumption for the most complex platforms and most critical systems
- Determines business system availability relationships and develops reports based on the performance of technical resources.
- Conducts computer capacity trends and availability incidents relationship analysis.
- Develops and delivers presentations of the impact of availability incidents.
- Makes recommendations and institutes improvements.

- Project Management
- Manages the most complex in this discipline, and may serve as prime on projects that impact multiple domains, holding others accountable to delivery deadlines and quality standards.
- Manages own tasks within a work plan, using I/S standard methodology.
- Keeps own portion of work plan up-to-date, adjusting and documenting changes as necessary to meet deliverables and deadlines.
- Recognizes and escalates quality, deadline, or deliverables issues within own work environment to team leads or project managers.

- System Support
- Provides second level support to the Help Desk.
- On call 24 x 7 on a rotating basis.

- Technical Leadership
- Maintains an awareness of technical developments in their field of expertise.
- Develops requests for information and requests for proposals.
- Leads the vendor evaluation process and makes recommendations for technology investments.
- Assists technologists in planning the resource requirements for systems under development.
- Assists domains by providing subject matter expertise as needed. Continuously maintains knowledge of domain changes and shares with team (i.e., user groups, research, peers).
- Supports less experienced staff through coaching and assisting with difficult decision making.
