Position Objective
The Network Transport Engineering team delivers a secure enterprise network routing, switching and access infrastructure. This includes network transport services for data, voice, video and other multi-media application requirements. The primary objective is to deliver these technologies and infrastructure solutions in a way that enables innovation and delivers value for American Family's customers, sales agents and employees, while at the same time maintaining stability and controlling costs.

Primary Accountabilities
- First-Level Management / Leadership For Individual Domain (25%)
- Manages direct reports, systems and projects to achieve domain goals. This is done in accordance with company policies.
- Develops and manages unit budget.
- Prepares and analyzes unit planning reports.
- Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
- Provides an environment conducive to cross-domain teaming.
- Hires and maintains a diverse work group.

- Major Functions / Areas For Which You Are Accountable And Their Primary Results (20%)
- Internetworking / Network Capacity Planning: To insure adequate network capacity to meet the needs of the corporation- Business Needs Analysis; Networking Needs Analysis; Capacity Study Evaluation
- Internetworking / Network Design and Implementation: Utilizing the results from Internetworking / Network Capacity Planning to design and implement network facilities, using both public and private networking systems - Local Area Network Design and Implementation; Metropolitan Area Network Design and Implementation; Wide Area Network Design and Implementation; Topology Design and Planning.
- Internetworking / Network Protocols and Technology: Insuring the capability and efficient transfer of data utilized by our network facilities- Protocol Compatibility Assessment and Management; Protocol Efficiency Assessment and Management; Voice, Data and Video Network Traffic - Quality of Service Assessment and Management.
- Internetworking Devices and Technology: The devices and technology that enable the transfer of data from one physical location to another - Routers, Hubs, Bridges, Switches, Front-end Processors and Gateways Performance and Management; DSUs/CSUs, Modems, Network Interface Cards Performance and Management; Internetworking Security Devices and Technology (such as firewalls and data encryption ) Performance and Management; Internetworking Data Compression Technology and Devices Performance and Management; IP Addressing DHCP, DNS, WINS Services Performance and Management; Internet Access Performance and Management.
- Communications Software and Internetworking Operating Systems: Software and systems that allow internetworking devices to operate effectively- Internetworking Operating Systems (such as CISCO IOS for routers, switches, etc.) Performance and Management; Network Control Program for Front End Processors (NCP) Performance and Management; Virtual Telecommunication Access Method (VTAM) Performance and Management; Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Program (TCP/IP) Performance and Management.

- Teamwork and Collaboration for Successful Implementation and Support of Project Efforts (20%)
- Provides an environment where teamwork is encouraged, fluid and successful.
- Integrates activities with business units and other I/S areas to ensure access to the right people, with the right knowledge, at the right time.
- Provides second level support to the Help Desk (expertise we sell to the Help Desk to resolve problems related to our product line they are unable to perform).

- Collaborative And Team-Based Environment (10%)
- Provides expert time studies and presentations on products and services within the domain upon request.
- Provides descriptions of products and services proactively to people within I/S and upon request to others outside of I/S.

- Strong Customer Relationships With Key Business Areas (10%)
- Builds an internal network with peers to learn their business from their perspective. Understands how individual operational units relate to each other and support other areas of the business.
- Continuous learning about the insurance industry and the relationship of networking technology to the industry in the areas of: achievement of key business success factors, the competition's use of technology, and forecasting future networking technology developments and their impact on American Family.

- Strategies Linked to the Division's Business Goals/Results (10%)
- Establishes, communicates and implements operating area's mission and strategies. This is accomplished by the development of a business plan.
- Supports and participates in the I/S transformation process including the cultural principles (ethics, integrity, meeting behaviors, teamwork, cooperation, communications, interpersonal relations, supervisory behaviors, contracting, customer focus, quality, risk management, empowerment, and entrepreneurship).
- Maintains an active awareness of American Family's business environments, corporate culture and structure to support key decision making.

- Technology Application to Meet Business Requirements (5%)
- Strategically analyzes network technology opportunities and problems from a broad perspective in relation to achieving business objectives.
- Applies networking technology to meet current and anticipated business needs as they relate to customer satisfaction, quality, efficiency, and innovation.
- Responsible and accountable for the control, reliability, performance, and meeting minimum service levels for the corporate network.
- Responsible for providing appropriate network security protection.
- Recommends / selects network products and negotiates leases and purchase agreements.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership or management experience.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of one or more supported technologies including: network routing and switching technologies; network carrier services and technologies; WAN, LAN and SAN internetworking; wireless network technologies including WiFi, cellular, and satellite; server and storage virtualization technologies including load balancing; multimedia network applications such as voice and video; firewall, session border controller and other security technologies; and, remote access control technologies.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of network design and configuration.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of capacity planning methods in a network infrastructure environment.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of infrastructure architecture principles and frameworks.
