Position Details

We are pleased to offer a full-time paid summer internship in our Business and Workplace Services (BWS) department. The Environment and Safety Unit within the BWS department is responsible for Occupational Safety and Health compliance efforts for American Family Insurance internal operations. The Environment and Safety Unit has corporate wide responsibilities and works with all others divisions in the organization. The position will be located in National Headquarters in Madison Wisconsin.

Responsibilities
• The intern will be involved in two projects. 1) Assisting in the implementation of a Job Safety Analysis of higher risk positions at American Family. Working under the supervision of senior staff, the intern will assist the managers and employees in those positions in completing the Job Safety Analysis process. Some limited local and overnight travel could be involved. 2) Assisting in the implementation of an Environment, Health and Safety database system. Working under the supervision of senior staff, the intern will assist in a new manager-employee interactive system being installed that would create and maintain a centralized record keeping function. The process will also look at automating several processes that use paper forms and making these available through hand held or tablets for completion. As time permits, other work may be done in the area of ergonomics.

Preferred Qualifications
• Working towards completing either a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health or Industrial Engineering with an emphasis in Occupational Safety and Health.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Must be in pursuit of a master's, bachelor's or associate degree or certificate program both the semester before and the semester following the start date of the internship.

Travel Requirements
- This position requires travel up to 5% of the time
