Position Details
The position requires working 2:00pm to 10:10pm Monday through Friday.
Preferred candidate will have 3-4 years experience running a sheet fed color press with aqueous coating.
Position Objective
The Offset Print/Finishing Operator is responsible for complex set up and operation of a variety of print and bindery equipment for the company, agents and commercial printers. Required to maintain high quality standards while meeting all deadlines. Makes machine adjustments, troubleshoots problem areas, and performs preventative maintenance. Provides work direction and training for Commercial Print/Finish Operator I employees.
Primary Accountabilities
- Offset Printing (40%)
- Follows make ready procedures before starting to run jobs. Performs size changes and makes adjustments to units of press, maintains water system for proper filtration, temperature and PH-conductivity parameters.
- Secures a proof copy. Checks alignment for correct positioning, registration and PMS ink color match.
- Monitors proper color density with colors bars and densitometer on 4-6 color process work. Uses pantone formula guide to mix ink for special runs to ensure exact color match.
- Prioritizes workload and provides work direction to others to meet due dates and print specifications. Examines job for completeness and accuracy. Makes necessary inquiries.
- Communicates with manager when production problems occur that will impact timeliness or quality of the print product.
- Assists in cross-training with co-workers on print equipment.
- Attends meetings to provide input on machine capabilities for customer projects.
- Finishing (40%)
- Set up and operates professional stitching equipment to complete booklets and magazine requests. Ensures quality control standards during setup.
- Performs paper cutting, shrink wrapping, spiral binding, padding, and laminating finish work.
- Assists in cross-training with co-workers on finishing equipment.
- Distribution (10%)
- Coordinates movement or delivery of printed materials.
- Utilizes the pallet jack and forklift to transport specified stocks from inventory.
- Utilizes third party software to determine fees for shipping materials.
- Operates equipment to apply postage to packages for mailing.
- Works with third party vendors to send and receive items through the loading dock.
- Maintenance (10%)
- Performs standard preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
- Performs troubleshooting on problem areas of equipment.
- Maintains the record maintenance log for each piece of equipment.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience operating offset print and finishing equipment.
- Demonstrated experience using complex finishing equipment used for paper cutting, folder setups, shrink wrapping, spiral binding, padding, and laminating.
Working Conditions
- This position requires the ability to work with exposure to electrical shock between 1 and 33% of the time.
- This position requires the ability to work with exposure to fumes or airborne particles between 66 and 100% of the time.
- This position requires the ability to work in loud noise (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment).
- This position requires the ability to work with exposure to moving parts between 66 and 100% of the time.
- This position requires the ability to work with exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals between 66 and 100% of the time.
- This position requires the ability to work in very loud noise (examples: jack hammer work, front row at a rock concert).
- This position requires the ability to work with exposure to vibration between 1 and 33% of the time.
- This position requires the ability to work in wet and/or humid conditions between 33 and 66% of the time.
