Position Details:
A successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the test environments will adequately support the development and testing activities performed by project teams. Effective collaboration, verbal and written communication skills are essential as this position is the central point contact for any test environment issues, questions or configuration assistance. Candidates will be asked to research, analyze, recommend, and lead/coordinate the implementation of innovative solutions to meet the changing test environment needs.
Depending on qualifications the candidate selected may be considered for a Testing Engineer or Testing Senior Engineer position.
Position Objective
Testing Engineering Specialists work as part of Solution Delivery team to lead the creation and execution of testing plans for application development. Individuals in this role will apply various testing techniques to verify that solutions are ready for client review and approval. They lead testing efforts on projects that are complex and/or critical. They proactively recommend opportunities for testing process improvements.
Primary Accountabilities
- Application testing Planning, Design and Execution (30%)
- Creates and communicates application test strategy and plan.
- Oversee test case and test scenario development to address the testing requirements.
- Selects comprehensive testing plans based on the application requirements; consulting with Sr. Engineers. Automates the test case execution wherever it is feasible to do so.
- Manages implementation of the testing plan, verifying the actual results against expected results. Reports defects for formal defect tracking.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate documentation for the area of responsibility.
- Adheres to the SDLC (Systems Development Life Cycle) standards and processes.
- Testing Plan Management (30%)
- Manages testing efforts on projects.
- Creates and maintains testing work plan for assigned projects.
- Assists and holds other testing engineers on the team accountable for their sections of work plan. Takes accountability for their own deliverables; and manages own tasks.
- Keeps testing work plans up-to-date, while tracking actuals; adjusting and documenting changes as necessary to meet deliverables and deadlines.
- Recognizes and communicates quality, deadline, or deliverables issues within own work environment to team leads and/or management.
- Continually improves testing coordination knowledge and skills. Mentors less experienced technologists on the testing coordination discipline.
- Test Environment Definition (10%)
- Lead / coordinate the efforts to define and manage testing environments.
- Works with Solution Delivery teams to establish the testing environment needs.
- Collaborates with other areas to define the testing environment to meet the Solution Delivery teams` needs.
- Executes appropriate processes to ensure the availability of adequate test data for testing.
- Maintains a calendar of testing environments and their availability.
- Testing Tool Evaluation and Selection (10%)
- Maintains awareness of new testing tools emerging in the industry.
- Leads the development of requests for information (RFIs) and requests for proposals (RFPs).
- Assesses tools and identifies tools that would be valuable to American Family, considering the technical and business direction of the organization.
- Facilitates selection of new tools, partnering with applications technology areas within I/S.
- Existing Testing Tools Support (10%)
- Maintains an understanding of several tools currently used for testing , including different versions and releases.
- Identifies and documents procedures and best practices for how to apply these tools, providing testing engineers with procedures that will streamline their testing effort.
- Monitors the frequency and usage of assigned tools, identifying tools that may be retired.
- Promotes the use of tools that will add value to the testing engineers.
- Application testing standards and processes (10%)
- Identifies the need for application testing standards, work with others to create standards and communicate.
- Collects feedback from the users of testing standards and identifies the need to modify or retire a standard based on the feedback.
- Acts as a subject matter expert for the testing standards and processes.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in preparing and leading testing efforts on large and/or complex projects.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of testing methods and best practices.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of testing tools.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of test plan preparation and execution.
- Solid knowledge and understanding in defining and implementing testing standards and processes.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of SDLC (Solution Delivery Life Cycle).
- Solid knowledge and understanding of n-tier computing platforms (e.g. Mainframe, Web enabled, multi-tier client/server, EDI, imaging); programming languages (e.g. Java, SQL, Cobol II, Visual Basic).
- Solid knowledge and understanding of system development methodologies. (e.g. Waterfall, Iterative, Agile.).
Travel Requirements
- This position requires travel up to 10% of the time.
